Never thought I'd see Beebe, Ark in the news

Once upon a time-- in another life-- I lived in Beebe, Ark. And yes, the flocks of birds, primarily black birds do blot out the sun when they fly from their roosts in the AM and PM.
They feed on the grain fields surrounding the area--rice, soybeans left in the field. Sometimes before it is harvested-- which doesn't please the farmers too much. The populace have been known to shoot off "cannon" and water cannon to try to move them away. Their droppings can grow to thigh high levels-- ick! And they break the branches with their weight.
I read that there were fireworks being shot off for New Years-- so I guess that coulda spooked them into flying and running into each other and solid objects. Raining birds so to speak.
Curious--that happening and the fish kill also in Arkansas-- altho the two locations are not real close together. And the fish are bottom feeders--so if there is something settling to the bottom of their lake-- well???
Guess we live in those "interesting times"!! |
