A series of more than 500 tremors struck the Canary Islands over the past several days.
This could indicate an imminent eruption of El Hierro, a volcano on the southwestern area of the Canaries.
There has been concern over the past decade that an eruption of this volcano could produce a landslide triggering a tsunami over 100 meters high which could devastate portions of the eastern coast of the United States
The last eruption occurred more than 200 years ago.
