The models seem to be looking at one of the "classic" paths where a Cape Verdes makes the trans-Atlantic voyage, goes just over or south of the islands, shoots the Yucatan gap, and heads nearly straight up, ala Ivan, Katrina, Georges, Frederic, Dennis, Rita.
It's been nearly three years since a hurricane hit the central Gulf area hitting the west central northern Gulf coast. From New Orleans to the Big Bend, a storm hasn't affected these areas since the epic 2005 season. 6 years would be the longest gap between hurricanes for this area since the 1980s.
I have been wondering when our luck runs out. Is 2011 it? |
