The problem with opening windows in a house is that the wind pressures on a house are very dynamic. It was discussed in past years that with each gust of wind the pressure loading changes and what was a high pressure with one gust can be a low pressure area with the next.

The problem with opening any window is you are giving the wind an access to the interior of the house which can lead to lifting and pushing from the interior. A good example of what this can do is the blowing out of garage doors in Charlotte county after charlie and the collapse of gables in Dade county after Andrew.

A house, especially coastal Florida, is designed to have the dynamic load come from the outside and push in not from the inside and push out. Keep the windows closed.
