With you on this one and agree with the problem. Complacency is going to be the death of someone, but hyping possibilities only makes it worse one day. Too much information might be worse than none in that regard. If we just knew that there was a storm at "X" moving at Y degrees, it might be better for the population in some ways. General "hurricane season" prep and 3-day tracks could be argued as a better world. If this one curves out to sea as it very well may, we have people from the gulf coast to Maine that will be talking about the "stupid models" and all-over-the-map forecasts. If we had nothing but position and current track on this one, we would have excited a lot fewer people in the general population and left the rest thinking about future possibilities, as should be the case. Five-day forecasts and "good models" with a 1,000 mile spread with not a clue of intensity are making the field look bad. |
