The best thing about this loop is you can see the start of the interaction between the front and Irene. Cloud flow should give a good indication of where Irene is going as the path for Irene will be visible to the naked eye.
Of concern to me is that if the low over the great lakes is that strong you could end up with some strong gradient difference in the collision area , or at least winds in opposite directions (NE from the low and SW on the front left of Irene) squeezing together in a confined area, leading to damage away from actual typical hurricane high wind areas. A good example of this was backside Wilma in Broward, Palm Beach and Martin Counties. Because of the interaction with the front coming down from the Northwest the backside of Wilma was much more violent and caused more damage than was expected.
