Constant Irene...no mention of any other news. However they every time they talk about storm surge and shows maps they show the map where cat 1's will surge and flood to (Hoboken, Manhattan, Jersey shore locations) because they predict her to be a cat 1. The terrifying aspect to this is that this storm may have higher than cat 1 storm surge for a few reasons.

First of all it is absolutely enormous. The trop wind field has s 290 mile radius,  the hurricane field is currently an 80 mile radius and growing. Does anyone know what katrina and ikes wind fields were when they made landfall?

Second, its relatively slow moving, especially with other storms that have come close to, or hit the area.

Third, its coming at high tide

All the officials that evacuate are using these maps that definitely have great value. I just feel that they should up the storm surge forecasts and thus evaluations for evacuation. The storm surge is not simply based on the category of the inner cores highest winds.
