Bobbi people only learn that with experience unfortunately. I can remember you mentioning the flooding threat days ago. It's the Cat 1's and TS that have rocked our world with inland flooding here on the central gulf. Powerful hurricanes often move so fast that if the surge didn't get you, not enough water falls per the short time of exposure to do major flooding in the coastal plain. The mountains are a whole different story, Last Thanksgiving I went of a 3 day backpacking trip to Albert Pike in the Quachita Mountains of Arkansas. They had an epic flooding event last year. One would never believe the height that the water could rise above its normal level in a quiet creek till you see debris in the tops of trees from the flooding. Hopefully a whole generation of survivors have been taught a valuable lesson and will react properly now. Step one is not to build in flood prone areas. This is 2011 and those areas can be accurately predicted. Unfortunately, I can show you 10 new houses under construction that will some day flood here. |
