In my opinion, the most accurate hurricane model is the NOGAPS, and it also indeed shows Katia going safely out to sea. I don't even look at the other models, such as the CMC or the Euro, because I think the NOGAPS is by far a superior model. I'm sure some people may disagree, but I think this model withstands the test of time.
That being said... I think Katia will be a bit more than a fish. A brush with the Outer Banks is a distinct possibility before Katia takes the express train right hook out to sea. So, mostly a fish storm, but she will leave her mark with some wild waves and gusty winds in NC.
But, southern New England does not need another hurricane this year. The last one, albeit a weak hurricane was bad enough!
