2011, when Nate is named at 500PM, will move itself back into second, behind only 2005, for quickest season to 14.
As of today, September 7:
2005 was on Ophelia
2011 is on Nate
1933 and 1936 were on 13.
It should be noted that 2011 won't have much competition from here on out, as once we get above 16 storms, there haven't been many seasons with that many named systems period.
Also of note: There is a system, right behind Maria that is starting to roll, near 30W. It looks to be viable and down the road could push us to Ophelia. That would put 2011 in rare air in second place on the current pace. Why? Phillippe and Rita did not form until September 17 and 18, respectively, back in 2005.
2011 would be tied with 2005 for quite a few days. |
