Opal 1995

It is beginning to resemble, very much, the guidance for Opal.
She unexpectedly exploded into a Cat 4 with winds of 150 mph, overnight, and raced toward the northern Gulf Coast, making landfall as a Cat 3 with winds of 115.
People went to sleep on October 3, with a minimal hurricane on their hands and not much more expected in the way of strengthening. People woke up on October 4, to a Cat 4 hurricane with winds of 150 mph, and a pressure of 916 mb.
I fear that Nate is Opal's younger twin brother.
The northern Gulf Coast, much like the rest of the US, has escaped a major hurricane strike for 6 years.
Time can only be on your side for so long.
Nate is getting his act together and if his core consolidates today into tonight, and he begins his trek north, tomorrow we should wake up to a near hurricane TS, or minimal hurricane. That's not the problem.
The problem is going to sleep Friday night and waking up Saturday to a major hurricane barreling towards us along the northern Gulf Coast. |
