Frozen hurricane

Massive storm slamming west Alaska.  Pressure in Nome is 28.73" (972 mb) and falling like a brick. The center of the low is 945mb!!!

Just like the US East, waves draw people to the coast to play.  It really looks like Alaska's take on a hurricane.

...ONE OF THE WORST BERING SEA STORMS ON RECORD WILL CAUSE
WIDESPREAD STRONG WINDS AND COASTAL FLOODING ALONG THE WEST
COAST...

AN EXTREMELY STRONG STORM IN THE NORTHERN BERING SEA IS NOW
CAUSING SOUTHEAST WINDS OF 50 TO 70 MPH ALONG THE ENTIRE WEST
COAST OF ALASKA THIS EVENING. GUSTS AS HIGH AS 100 MPH ARE
EXPECTED TONIGHT IN THE BERING STRAIGHT AND OVER ST LAWRENCE ISLAND.
THE WINDS WILL TURN SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST LATER TONIGHT AND REMAIN
STRONG FROM SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT. THIS WILL
CAUSE THE SEA LEVEL TO RISE LATE TONIGHT AND WEDNESDAY.

MAJOR COASTAL FLOODING AND SEVERE BEACH EROSION WILL OCCUR OVER
ALL OF WESTERN ALASKA FROM CAPE ROMANZOF TO THE BERING STRAIT
FROM TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY. SEA LEVELS WILL RISE 8 TO 10 FEET
ABOVE NORMAL BY WEDNESDAY MORNING IN MOST AREAS WITH WAVES 15 TO
20 FT. IN EASTERN NORTON SOUND THE SEA LEVEL WILL RISE RAPIDLY
WEDNESDAY MORNING. OVER ST LAWRENCE ISLAND SEA LEVELS WILL RISE
TO 5 FEET ABOVE NORMAL WITH WAVES OF 29 FEET. THE HIGH WATER AND
HIGH WAVES WILL PUSH WATER INLAND AND CAUSE FLOODING OF LOW LYING
AREAS ALONG THE COAST.

THIS STRONG STORM IS ALSO BRINGING BLIZZARD CONDITIONS TO THE WEST
COAST FROM THE BERING STRAIT SOUTH THIS EVENING. THE BLIZZARD
CONDITIONS WILL SPREAD NORTH TO POINT HOPE LATER TONIGHT. THIS
WILL MAKE IT DANGEROUS FOR PEOPLE TO BE OUTSIDE SHOULD THEY NEED
TO EVACUATE RISING WATER NEAR THE COAST. PEOPLE ARE URGED TO MOVE AWAY
FROM LOW LYING AREAS NOW.

* LOCATION...ALONG THE COAST INCLUDING THE CITY OF NOME.

* IMPACTS...MAJOR COASTAL FLOODING AND SEVERE BEACH EROSION IS
 EXPECTED ALONG THE COAST. SEA LEVELS ARE NOW 4 FEET ABOVE NORMAL
 AND WILL RISE TO 9 FEET ABOVE NORMAL BY WEDNESDAY. COMBINED WITH
 HIGH WAVES THIS WILL PUSH WATER ONSHORE AND FLOOD LOW LYING
 AREAS NEAR THE COAST. ANY SEA ICE THAT IS PRESENT NEAR SHORE
 WILL BE PUSHED ONSHORE AND COULD DAMAGE BUILDINGS. HIGH SEA LEVELS AND
 WAVES WILL BACK UP WATER IN THE SNAKE RIVER NEAR THE MOUTH. THIS
 MAY FLOOD A PORTION OF THE ROAD TO THE NOME AIRPORT.

* TIMING...SEA LEVELS WILL RISE STEADILY FROM NOW THROUGH
 WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AND REMAIN HIGH THROUGH THURSDAY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A COASTAL FLOOD WARNING MEANS THAT RISING SEA WATER THAT CAUSES
FLOODING IS EXPECTED. THIS WILL BE ONE OF THE MOST SEVERE STORMS
ON RECORD. COASTAL RESIDENTS IN THE WARNED AREA SHOULD TAKE
PRECAUTIONS NOW TO PROTECT LIFE AND PROPERTY...AND BE ON THE
ALERT FOR RISING WATER LEVELS. DO NOT DELAY IN TAKING NEEDED
PRECAUTIONS FOR THIS UNUSUALLY SEVERE AND LIFE THREATENING STORM.
