Unfortunately, the NHC's best track database usually doesn't show the origin of a storm. I wish they would. Sites could just choose not to display the earlier part of the track if they did have the track available before it developed.
Iniki was one crazy storm and one that they didn't predict well. When I used to visit Hawaii I would see the closed Coco Palms Resort. I think I "borrowed" some coconut's from the groves that were still left there. They weren't using them. Although at the time I don't think I knew it was closed because of a hurricane. I would have visited probably 7 or 8 months after if I visited Kauai that particular year. I was young at the time and the focus of the TV coverage in Florida was probably still on Andrew at the time.
Some of the waves we are, and have been, looking at in the Atlantic that are too low might be some of what has blossomed in the East Pacific or will later on. That's why they get an earlier start I guess, the waves are high enough when they get over there, while they are not earlier in the season in the Atlantic. |
