Disturbance East of S. Florida

Convection increased substantially today, as heavy squalls with stron winds / heavy rains affected S. Fla and the Bahamas throughout the day. Although surface pressures are high, many areas have fallen as much as 7mb during the last few hours. Lastest upper air data indicates an increasing favorable upper pattern with an upper high over the strongest 850-500mb vorticity near Andros Island in the Bahamas. Nassau has southerly winds now for several hours and E-ENE winds near the S. FL coast. Convection has decreased over the strongest area of vertical lift, but remains rather active N-E of the forming LLC just east of Andros. Deep layer moisture is plentiful, oceanic heat content is high and the diurnal pulse will likely fire convection later tonight.
Finally, like this system to slowly gather during the next several days; especially once it reaches the eastern gulf. The upper pattern is favorable and SST are high for strengthening, all it needs is convection near the vorticity.
Note: The only hinderance is very dry air around the system. |
