From The NOAA Hurricane Hunters Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/NOAAHurricaneHunters
"Mr. Terry Lynch, Chief of The NOAA Hurricane Hunters Technical Section, takes a moment in the cockpit of N42RF to celebrate his 565th Hurricane Eye Penetration with crewmate Mr. Joseph Klippel, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) P-3 Flight Engineer.
The torch for the highest number of Hurricane (not Tropical Storm) eye-wall penetrations will pass down from Dr. Jim McFadden, Chief of AOC's Programs Staff. Jim ("Doc") was the previous record holder with 564 'pennies'. Terry started at NOAA/AOC in 1986, this being his 26th hurricane season with the organization.
The crew of N42RF finished up their land-falling mission into Hurricane Isaac with 6 passes through the eye of Hurricane Isaac, bringing Terry's total to 568. We believe this is the world record. Congrats Terry!!!"
