I "hunkered down" in the middle of Escambia County, north of Nine Mile Rd.
A few things I remember about that day was that the power going out, and the wind!
Around 7 pm the power would go out randomly for 15 second intervals and then come back on. Finally at 10:13 pm we lost power for good! It was out for almost 2 weeks after that!
Not much longer, around 11pm, the wind started ROARING! And it kept going and going and roaring for the nest 4-5 hours until well after 4 am.
Finally at 6:30 am, it had slacked off enough that we ventured outside since it was getting day light out. The destruction was indescribable!
At our house, we had trees down all over, one even hit a part of our house! The pool made it though the storm, but was filled with leaves and branches. our privacy fence was almost all gone. There was a path from our yard through 4 neighbors fences where a mini tornado must have gone through.
We were lucky! A lot luckier than many people in the area!
