Hanna, haven't checked in for a few days - sorry I missed your post. We are familiar with this type of home construction here. You may recall seeing video about Hurricane Ivan's trashing of Pensacola Beach, and how an NBC news crew survived that awful night of wind and high surge quite comfortably in what was called the Dome Home .
In fact that house is near my home, and I watched it going up not long before Ivan. It took about a year and a half to build and was hideously expensive. The owners went into default a few years ago and the house was eventually re-sold by the bank.
I think it speaks volumes that, of the dozens of houses built on the island (and still being built) to replace those destroyed by Ivan in 2004, not a single one is a 'dome home.' There are several new 12-sided 'round' frame houses on pilings, but nobody opted for the dome home-type construction. Take that for what it's worth.
Thanks for the thought in any case! |
