20 minutes ago Jumpin' Jelawat! OK, this is the BACK side of Jelawat. Impressive. Scary impressive. We're still in TCCOR 1E: DO NOT VENTURE OUT IN THIS VERY DANGEROUS STORM. We're still several hours from saying goodbye to this storm, so STAY INSIDE. There will be a lot of new debris created or affected by the sudden shift in winds. The eye will be over the north end of Okinawa shortly and we'll start seeing reduced winds in a few hours. Hang in there. Stormy 2 hours ago Winds are dropping below 40 knots in some places as the "Eye of Jelawat" (it does sound a LITTLE funny) passes by. But these winds are going to pick right back up on the backside of this storm. Wait it out, shipmates, we still have a way to go before this is over. I don't know when we'll go into "Recovery" - but when we do, STAY INSIDE! There's a LOT of damage, and our engineering and public works crews need an opportunity to assess it and clear any hazardous conditions before it's safe to go out. Don't be "that guy" - let people do their jobs and stay safely indoors. Stormy 3 hours ago Good morning, Okinawa! Well, we're starting to see power outages rolling in. Looks like Chibana and White Beach are powerless (so to speak), and we've got some roofs (none on homes that we're aware of) that are apparently more aerodynamic than they were designed to be. We're still looking at the eye of the storm passing over Kadena in a couple of hours - so it's going to be a wild day. Tokamura-san was right. Oki storm desu. Please stay inside. If you have a REAL emergency (serious injury), contact emergency services - but remember, they'll be at risk as well if they respond. Think before you dial. Stay tuned, stay safe! We'll get though this! Stormy |
