I think this is a confusing and dangerous precedent to be setting.

People, by and large, just storm and name and automatically associate it with hurricane season.  Those who follow weather will make differentiation, but those are extremely minimal amounts of people.  The general populace will live through one of these "named" winter storms and associate a little unpleasantness with having went through a "named" storm.  This will lead to an already complacent society.  

Not a good idea.

But, that's just my simple and humble opinion.
