Good morning, Okinawa! We have a late entry into the weekend-spoiling category! Already a "named" weather system, Tropical Storm "Prapiroon" is churning up water west of Guam and is continuing west-by-northwest at about seven knots. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center offers this comforting analysis: "Fortunately, due to the strong westerly flow, the system is unlikely to affect Korea and Japan ... with the exception of Okinawa." Gee, thanks JTWC! Glad to know that ONLY Okinawa will get to play in this latest round of "blow my shed to China."
"Prapiroon" (actually the first sensible name of the season - the Thai God of Rain - he said ominously) is heading this way at about seven knots which MIGHT put it in our vicinity around the 12th. Because it CAN'T get here on the 13th. Because that's the day of the Navy Ball. And that would be bad.
This storm's track is still a matter for much anorexic debate among our team of models, so keep your fingers crossed and we may get a miss. If not? Well ... prap! Time to break out the waterproof Uno cards ... ;)
