Two Views, One Model, HWRF

I don't understand how these views could look so different in intensity at landfall when they are from the same 6 Zulu HWRF run.

I also don't understand how such a strong storm could have so little vertical convection.
I guess you need warmer waters in order for hot towers to push convection into the stratosphere. ... don't know...
