Long Island in deep trouble

I took a ride out to massapequa shores a bit ago and the water level was above the canals that zig zag all the homes south of Merrick Road. I wasn't expecting the water so high considering the winds were blowing the water back out and the high tide was 3 hours ago. When the wind shifts these people will be in so much danger. There was already street flooding as well from all the leaves.
I cant imagine what it will be like at 8pm tonight. I've been trying to convince my friends that live in that area to get out.
I'm Staying in for the rest of the storm, it was scary out there so early into this storm. It isn't supposed to get that bad for another 3 - 4 hours.
