I don't think it would make any difference. If people would ignore the TS warnings that have been in place, what would make them pay attention to a hurricane warning. The storm and the situation presented as been explained more times than I can count for at least 5 days now. And this advisory still makes it very clear
"IN ADDITION...HURRICANE-FORCE WINDS ARE EXPECTED ALONG PORTIONS OF THE COAST BETWEEN CHINCOTEAGUE VIRGINIA AND CHATHAM MASSACHUSETTS. THIS INCLUDES THE TIDAL POTOMAC FROM COBB ISLAND TO SMITH POINT... THE MIDDLE AND UPPER CHESAPEAKE BAY...DELAWARE BAY...AND THE COASTS OF THE NORTHERN DELMARVA PENINSULA...NEW JERSEY...THE NEW YORK CITY AREA...LONG ISLAND...CONNECTICUT...AND RHODE ISLAND. TROPICAL-STORM-FORCE WINDS ARE EXPECTED NORTH OF CHATHAM TO MERRIMACK RIVER MASSACHUSETTS...THE LOWER CHESAPEAKE BAY...AND SOUTH OF CHINCOTEAGUE TO DUCK NORTH CAROLINA...THE NORTHERN ENDPOINT OF THE TROPICAL STORM WARNING."
And they should know well the consequences of a strong nor'easter. With each situation like this I have to marvel at the genuine cluelessness of the majority of the public -- including some of my own family that live up that way. We even had to tell them the storm was coming. As I said idiots -- and one of them is my son. |
