They were different animals from different directions & had they come in the same direction of Sandy would have similar if not worse results. Also consider a higher sea level rise than back then & a full moon for Sandy and there is your surge. You are basically blowing off 1938 as the same as Sandy are you kidding me? based on pressure? we know & have seen time & time again that pressure does not always represent higher winds and 1938 had major hurricane force winds and sandy did not. If 1938 had come in the same direction of Sandy NYC probably would have been completely flooded and not just coastal areas. High rises would have had all most of the windows blown out, I have not seen or heard too much about high rise windows blowing out from Sandy. Meanwhile here in S Fla Wilma took out nearly half the windows in most high rises with winds 100 or less |
