Typhoon Bopha One Month Later (Video) January 4, 2013 Mark Leon Goldberg Category: Climate Topics: Bopha, Philippines, UNICEF About 6 weeks after Superstorm (Frankinstorm) Sandy ravaged the Caribbean and Northeastern United States, a major storm called Typhoon Bopha struck the Philippines and neighboring small island states. You did not see or hear much about this storm in the American media, but it was by far the strongest Typhoon to hit the region in years. It made landfall on the southern Philippines Island of Mindanao on December 2. That was particularly bad luck for the island's residents because they have yet to recover from Typhoon Washi, which struck one year earlier. Over 1,000 people were killed in the storm and several tens of thousands displaced. The storm inflicted about $900 million in damage. Now, we are in the recovery mode. This video from Unicef offers some striking images of how residents are coping with the damage. http://www.undispatch.com/typhoon-bopha-one-month-later-video |
