On Tuesday March 12, 2013 at 1200 UTC, the National Hurricane Center/Tropical Analysis and Forecast Branch(TAFB) will provide on an experimental basis to the National Digital Forecast Database (NDFD) gridded forecasts of marine weather elements over their offshore waters and high seas forecast areas of responsibility (AOR) in the Atlantic basin and the high seas forecast AOR in the East Pacific basin.
The gridded marine parameters include Surface (10-m) winds, 10-m wind gusts, significant wave heights and marine hazards. These grids are produced by forecasters through the AWIPS Graphical Forecast Editor (GFE) and are experimental. The grids should be available by 0330, 0930, 1530 and 2130 UTC each day.
Beginning March 12th the gridded marine forecasts can be viewed at: http://preview.weather.gov/graphical/
The experimental gridded marine forecasts on the NHC web site at http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/tafb/gridded_marine/ will be removed from the NHC website on Wednesday, March 20, 2013.
Users must go to the http://preview.weather.gov/graphical/ website after March 20th to access the gridded marine forecasts. .
