Still uncertainty about whether it survives to Hawaii, though the latest forecast indicates it could possibly be a depression or even weakening storm. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_ep1+shtml/083443.shtml?5-daynl?large
From 5am NHC discussion:
"FLOSSIE HAS ABOUT ANOTHER DAY OVER RELATIVELY WARM WATER...SO SOME ADDITIONAL STRENGTHENING IS POSSIBLE IN THE SHORT TERM. AFTER THAT TIME...HOWEVER...A GRADUAL WEAKENING TREND IS EXPECTED DUE TO COOLER WATER...DRIER AIR...AND SOME INCREASE IN WESTERLY SHEAR."
There is a chance there could be recon on that storm. The Air Force hurricane hunters posted this on their Facebook page: http://www.wlox.com/story/22925515/hurricane-hunters-flying-two-storms-difficult-three-impossible
The article is a few days old so this might no longer be the case:
"We're going to send three aircraft to Hawaii to fly that Eastern Pacific storm and we're going to seen three aircraft to the east to St. Croix."
It takes time to prepare, so I guess in case Flossie is stronger than forecast maybe they might still send some aircraft just in case they might be needed.
An interesting article by the way. |
