I've had some fools gold since I was a kid, totally can understand how someone thought it was real - imagine an old timer spending months hoarding the stuff only to find out it wasn't
I grew up in NE MN's Mesabi Range, agates galore, have some great specimens of them & various quartz, shale, mica - mostly memories of everything being red from iron ore. they are trying to mine copper now also, but have environmental hurdles to jump first (thankfully) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geology_of_Minnesota

lived in CO for some years & went panning for gold there, but the mountain stream water was incredibly cold
I've never gone gem hunting, but it would be totally awesome & even better to actually find some. some of the stuff they found on Prospectors was museum quality, one-of-a-kind, best ever found. looked like a lot of hard work though & perhaps in my younger days I would, but not likely now, so I hunt vicariously through that tv show
as far as weather channels, we are beat, as Comcast owns part of TWC, I doubt they will offer anything else any time soon - so, I just go to the internet.. |
