many years back... but this grasshopper doesn't remember what he said :( might try picking his brain on AmWx board, but I've not logged in there in quite some time & not sure if he has either
CIMSS has this on their various levels in Layer Mean Wind Analysis:
700-850mb TC MSLP/Vmax: >1000mb/<45kts
500-850mb TC MSLP/Vmax: 990-999mb/45-60kts
400-850mb TC MSLP/Vmax: 970-989mb/60-90kts
300-850mb TC MSLP/Vmax: 950-969mb/90-112kts
250-850mb TC MSLP/Vmax: 940-949mb/112-122kts
200-700mb TC MSLP/Vmax: <940mb/>122kts
so if Danny is at 974mb, I guess this would be more appropriate?

or if he's at 99 knots, then this ?

neither of which make me feel better about it steering clear of the Gulf...
here's their "info" for their steering winds page http://tropic.ssec.wisc.edu/misc/dlm/info.html
add to all of this that the images are static while the actual environment is fluid & will change over the coming days... and that makes me purely guessing ;)
