I think it is fake. Zooming in close to the edges of all the planes in the full size image shows a lot artifacts.



The NOAA planes have flown close together on formation flights before, I have some videos I got from a hurricane hunter that I put on YouTube that show it, but I took a look at those and they were not this close together.

Also, an image like that would have a presence on Google Images and it really doesn't.

But it does look really cool.
