I was going to send you a direct message but you are not able to be contacted that way. If you want, and I need to follow up on the below information, I will send you an email directly if I have your permission.
While you don't have to create a Microsoft account, that is different from registering with your computer's manufacturer. For example, I have an HP computer that came with Windows. I did not have to create a Microsoft account, I could use a local Windows account instead. (does not register with Microsoft) You simply choose a username and that can be it. Or if you want your computer password protected, you can add a password. You can also choose to get a Microsoft account which you create with Microsoft online. That would be your email and a password that allows you to do other stuff with Microsoft online, including access to the Windows Store where you can download various programs for your computer. (some free, some not) That would then be what you could use to sign in to your computer. Microsoft wants you to have a legal version of Windows, so you activate Windows, without providing any personal information, just some unique information about your computer, but not your email or name, which is something that probably happens automatically. (Most recently I do have a Microsoft account and test versions of Windows for Microsoft and I forget how activation works in normal circumstances.)
But your computer is probably a different brand than Microsoft. (I assume. Chances are you don't have a Microsoft computer.) Your warranty, if there is one, comes from that hardware manufacturer, not from Microsoft, unless you have a device that Microsoft built. (there are not that many of those, I think maybe only some tablets and phones) Microsoft usually just provides the operating system that the hardware manufacturer paid Microsoft for. I don't know if you are required to register or not with the computer manufacturer to have a valid warranty, but you should look into that. |
