sometimes people believe what they believe and no amount of trying to reason or educate them will do any good. Case in point; I had a neighbor/friend here in Cypress who stayed in her walk-in closet with her dog & hurricane supplies for Ike - she later told people "the 2nd day of Ike, the storm was worse than the 1st day"... now I believe the alcohol or possibly even the lack-of, contributed greatly to her belief, but nothing I said or showed her, absolutely nothing... could change her mind about Ike being a 2-day event...
here's wind analysis at the height of Ike for us: http://www.hwind.co/legacy_data/Products/Operational/2008/AL092008/0913/1330/AL092008_0913_1330_contour08.png
and the advisory about that same time: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/archive/2008/al09/al092008.public_a.049.shtml? note it was clipping along at 15mph at this point (calculates to 360 miles a day) & increasing in speed after that
