El Faro was a very large freighter

built in 1975 & lengthened and strengthened in 1993, so even larger than the Edmund Fitzgerald, except El Faro's cargo was above deck and, as last reported, listing 15 degrees


she left port Tue, Sept 29th on a routine, 2-day trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico
03utc advisory stated Joaquin was moving sw, but the 09utc (5am edt) states west at 4 kt

I've seen numerous tweets saying how lucky we were that Joaquin spared the US, but it apparently took the lives of 28 US citizens and 5 others - their loved ones don't feel very lucky :(
