NOAA's P3 hurricane hunter aircraft gears up for its third and final flight into Earl Posted on August 3, 2016 by noaahrd
Engines are on as the NOAA43 aircraft is set off to fly its third and final mission into Earl. They will take off at 2:00PM eastern from MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, FL for an eight hour mission. This is an operationally tasked mission by NOAA's Environmental Modeling Center(EMC). The data collected from the aircraft will be transmitted in real-time and ingested into the computer weather models in order to improve the track and intensity forecasts. Below is the flight track in green. The dots on the flight track (shown in green) represent the aircraft turn points. The red dots in the figure show the locations that launch weather balloons twice a day while the purple dots are the locations that launch balloons once a day.
