I bet a lot of people they take on those flights are not very prepared. The people they take could fly all the time, but there would probably be more than a little turbulence on basically any mission, even something like this. People in planes don't usually go looking for thunderstorms to fly into.
The worst turbulence most people have ever experienced on an airline flight is probably not even close to just an average day at the office for these people.
