I alluded to this a few days back that we needed to wait and see how the atmo features were going to orient themselves. As you can see above, and can see the models taking into account, that 2nd trough is NNW to SSE oriented. This means there is no chance Irma heads out to sea and little chance, if any, of her getting north of Charleston.
Any talk of anything else at this point is silly.
That 1st trough is lifting, the high wants to build back in (if you study the animation), a bit stronger than thought originally (why the Euro has it still touching cuba), the gap forms but it's a north south gap with a NW-SE trough building in and a low to the west.
That all said, of course the west coast may still be in play. Katia + all the other features might be just enough to give her a more western track before the recurve.
