I should note of course that it doesn't have to be a direct hit to cause a lot of damage. It just might be unclear as to what impact the storm might have until it's too late to prepare. If there is a turn, it might turn before the islands or it might turn over the islands. That might remain unknown until just before it happens. Plus, given the layout of the islands and the storm motion, which island might be most impacted, if not many of them, is unclear. It's like a storm paralleling the Florida coast and waiting to see if it turns a little. Any smaller movement on either side of the forecast is amplified a lot more given the angle of the storm in comparison to the chain of islands. And of course intensity is usually the most uncertain in a forecast.
