Down East

Down East is an informal geographic term referring to Carteret County east and north of Beaufort, NC along US70. Communities include Atlantic, Sealevel, Davis, Smyrna, Harker's Island and Marshallberg. This area experienced nine or more hours of hurricane conditions yesterday and this morning as Florence slowed almost to a standstill. The weather station data at Cape Lookout is here:

This would have been a more interesting live broadcast venue than sunny Myrtle Beach yesterday, especially being located in the action-packed NE quadrant of the cyclone. Marshallberg still reports 52 mph sustained and heavy rain. Perhaps we will see the extent of damage in this remote corner of NC as the storm moves on and reports emerge.
