totally o/t, but hey, it's Jan: Betelgeuse dimming

So I was looking at Orion tonight with our son in a (finally) clear sky & we were disagreeing whether the shoulder (Betelgeuse) was red and I told him it looked much dimmer than I remembered - so of course I had to Google it...

sure enough, there's some discussion of it online - much of it makes more of it than is probably happening, but look for the scientific sites that may not try for a sensational headline, just give you facts - pretty interesting !

https://www.skyandtelescope.com/observing/fainting-betelgeuse/

https://www.constellation-guide.com/betelgeuse/ (this from 2014 says it was 9th brightest star in the sky)

some headlines are really misleading, saying it will soon explode in a supernova, so do sort the sensationalism from the science
