I keep forgetting that in 2005 we almost had it happen.

There was an unnamed storm added after the season was over. Had it been named in real time, rather than Wilma being named what it was it would have been named Alpha and we would have had that situation occur then. Alpha 2005 would have been "retired" and then Alpha would have still been used again this year for the storm that hit Portugal. Then again, maybe when it does happen the WMO will actually finally do something.
