Intrigued / horrified.
It's only a matter of time before this kind of stuff is widespread. I was thinking a few days ago about what if there was a constellation of satellites like Starlink, from SpaceX, taking pictures rather than for internet access. As cheap as you can put up satellites now, I figure it's only a matter of time. When I was looking to verify the positions of weather radars around the world I was taking advantage of some of the options that were available for as close to current satellite imagery as you can get. I could usually get something recent enough. Google Earth often had imagery recent enough. But sometimes I had to take advantage of other sites. I forget which ones I used, but these are some of the ones I tried:
https://apps.sentinel-hub.com/eo-browser/ https://eos.com/landviewer/ https://scihub.copernicus.eu/dhus/ https://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/ https://zoom.earth/
Some you have to register for and only get a little bit of access for free. I did whatever I could do for free. Some of these services already have a small number of satellites of course, but I'm talking about what if they had hundreds or even thousands like SpaceX will eventually have. And speaking of SpaceX's satellites, they have a lot. I kept seeing little specks of white in some of the images I took of Saturn and Jupiter and can't help but think it might be some of them. Then again there's also a lot of other satellite and space debris. Or it could be stars that sometimes don't get captured or the camera just having issues. |
