I decided to check Jeff Masters and Bob Henson's blog and they have an entry on May 17th about the loop current: https://yaleclimateconnections.org/2022/05/waters-with-high-heat-content-expected-in-gulf-of-mexico-this-hurricane-season/
Their responsible headline and sub-headline:
"Waters with high heat content expected in Gulf of Mexico this hurricane season
An eddy is poised to break off from the Loop Current this summer, providing high heat content waters conducive for rapid intensification of hurricanes."
It's good, except they added a link to the May 18th article from that same person on another site with another clickbait headline: https://www.thedailybeast.com/the-loop-current-is-forecasting-a-monster-atlantic-hurricane-season
"A Monster Hurricane Season Is Coming-and Here's the Culprit"
Not sure if that headline has been changed at all, but from the link it never was a responsible headline.
The Master/Henson blog says this about the article, but doesn't comment on the headline:
"Oceanographer Nick Shay of the University of Miami published an excellent article on May 18 in The Conversation discussing the Loop Current outlook for the 2022 hurricane season. One interesting point he makes: 'Another trend we have been noticing is that the Loop Current's warm eddies have more heat than we saw 10 to 15 years ago. Whether that's related to global warming isn't clear yet, but the impact of a warming trend could be devastating.'" |
