I think I briefly heard about it, but not how strong it was. I think I heard about the solar flare, but never heard about the actual communication impacts.
Whenever I do hear about the sun being really active I look to see if there might be an increase in auroras. It would take something very powerful directed at Earth to see them in Florida. And even if it did, you probably wouldn't see it in a city. I think once maybe in the last ten years I recall some getting as far south as maybe the middle of the U.S.
O/T from this, the storm we had in Florida really brought the water levels up. It was about 0.8 feet below Idalia here where I am. It came over the sea wall and flooded the roads a bit around me. There was actually a boat and a jet ski loose on the canal next to my house early in the morning. I saw the boat across the canal from me a few houses down. At times it was up against some rocks and before I couldn't see where it went, it was just in the middle of the canal floating. The jet ski eventually ended up about four houses down I think on my side of the canal, maybe against a boat dock or maybe someone actually went out and tied it as it was still there later.
My neighbor went out into the water by wading into it on his boat dock, which was fully under water, to lift up his boat some I think. It sounded like that was what he was doing. (controls were out on a post on the dock)
I assume the boat that got loose was probably on a lift and it wasn't high enough. Apparently people knew who the boat belonged to. Not sure how much damage it got. I wasn't sure what to do about it. I kind of kept an eye on it for a bit. It was kind of up against some rocks for awhile and then eventually started heading further down the canal. I couldn't see it behind people's houses when I walked down the street to see how flooded the front entrance to me neighborhood was. (it was flooded, but still passable) The boat was gone by the time it got light enough. |
