It's interesting. This won't change much as every media organization will still display things like they have before probably. This will only be for people who see it online on the NHC's site. I like static imagery and I like dynamic maps as well. I can't recall if on the dynamic map you could add everything exactly like that or not. I know you could add some stuff. On a static image, you can't zoom in. It might seem a little busy. It would kind of be nice if they had an option to have zoomed in static imagery around the landfall point so you could see things defined a bit better. Not really close, but the width of the watch, warning and advisory area perhaps. The problem though with doing that, then you highlight one particular area and might make others feel they are safe when things could change, even outside the current area of watches, warnings and advisories. I guess I look forward to how people react to it. With something like this you don't know how well it works until you see if people pay more attention and understand it. Somehow you need to get people to understand that a storm is not a point on a small thin line. And even when it comes to the cone, impacts can sometimes be felt well outside the cone. And sometimes the center of the storm doesn't stay inside the cone. People in the region need to keep checking back in case things change. I don't know how best to communicate all of that. But it's good they're trying to find better ways. |
