It seems like this is who has the data, but I didn't try registering. I think it's all likely files that you need special software to view:
https://catalogue.ceda.ac.uk/uuid/facafa2ae494597166217a9121a62d3c
Also here...
Where it is described:
https://climatedataguide.ucar.edu/climate-data/sst-data-hadisst-v11
With datahere:
https://rda.ucar.edu/datasets/ds277.3/dataaccess/
Where it is under "HadISST1_NC" once you select a Web File Listing and then Complete File List and then HadISST1_NC. And then "HadISST_sst.nc.gz".
This direct link currently works for me:
https://data.rda.ucar.edu/ds277.3/HadISST_sst.nc.gz
But it is in NetCDF format, so you need special software.
https://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/netcdf/
I didn't download it fully as I don't know how to run NetCDF.
