We'll stay safe. It's going to have a massive surge to the north where it makes landfall. It's going to be close as to whether it floods me. And if so, by how much.
Overall, Tampa has been very lucky. Even if this storm does flood me a bit, we've still been lucky. 103 years since a major hurricane landfall in the area and it appears that stretch could continue. But it's a large storm, so we might get more impacts than we have felt since before I was born. I'm not familiar enough with storms after 1921 to know if the surge has ever been higher than what it will/could be in this one. My neighborhood was build in the late 1970s by filling in part of the bay I think and building a seawall around it. Great idea, lol. When my dad had the house built, the code was about to change and he was told he lucked out and didn't have to pay to build it a block or more higher. (it's concrete block) We do wish we had it higher now. Would have saved a lot on insurance over the years. And a tad less worry every storm. But oh well.
I have moved part of this post to a new post and rewrote it.
I've got various options depending on if the storm stays on forecast track, size and intensity. If it's far enough away, which it would be on forecast track, wind is going to be in line with other storms. It's the water. I have some parking garage options near to me. If the track starts to change closer to me or it gets stronger than forecast earlier on in the track, then I would head east, maybe to the other side of the state if it looked like it were really headed my way.
I'll be putting a lot of stuff in my house higher, like sturdier tables, shelves and on beds. We'll charge various power tools, like drills and stuff, in case we need to start opening up walls.
Just in a wait and see mode for now. Surge is going to be really bad where it makes landfall. I'm just hoping it doesn't hit the most populated areas with the worst of the storm. |
