I hadn't seen any video from Cedar Key. I guess that might have been focused on earlier in the storm coverage. The local news is mostly covering closer to Tampa and the national news mostly North Carolina. I'm still shocked by the damage in North Carolina.
At least closer to the landfall point people must have taken it seriously. Over half the deaths in Florida came from Pinellas County, west of Tampa.
In North Carolina though, that level of devastation is impossible to predict. Hard, to perhaps impossible, to prepare for something like that.
I drove around briefly here while going to the store and I decided to see some of the damage in Dana Shores, the neighborhood next to me. That starts at 11:48 in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0XzWDf1TK00&t=708s
I hadn't even driven to the other side of my neighborhood where there is one house that was particularly hard hit based on the fact they had cut into the walls inside. The front yard was sadly pretty much full of what they have to throw away.
I saw on the local sheriff department's Facebook page the front entrance to my neighborhood at 1:27 in the video when it was still flooded, though the water had receded significantly:
They were using a special vehicle in Dana Shores to get some people out. |
