Milton is Now a Major Hurricane

The NHC has put out a special statement that will be reflected in the 8 a.m. ET advisory noting that hurricane hunter aircraft have found Milton to now be a Cat 3 hurricane with 120 mph wins and 954 mb pressure.

Based on the storm's satellite presentation, I personally will be surprised if it does not reach Category 5 intensity.
I take some heart in the likelihood that shear and dry air will take a good bite out of this thing as it approaches the shore. But we saw this with Katrina, which amassed a storm surge equivalent to the Cat 5 she had been and brought that mag itude of surge ashore despite technically being a Cat 3 at landfall.
My hope for those in the path of storm surge is that its time as a high-end major is short-lived so the surge has time.to come down a bit before it reaches the coast.
I live in Tarpon Springs (north Tampa) and I am skipping town tonight.
