I still have to login to Twitter to check things sometimes, like whether something has been updated more frequently there than on Bluesky. Or try to figure out if someone's account on Bluesky is real, which is hard to tell a lot.
That's why using your domain on Bluesky is nice. That is a verification essentially. You have to demonstrate that you control it.
The DNS record has to either be updated or you have to post a file where they tell you to at the domain. Of course for individual people, you have to have your own domain. But that's not a problem for Jim or for me with mine. And it means no one else can take that handle before the person that owns it decides to register. Another plus.
I hope eventually it gets to the point it is easier to post on multiple platforms. I'm just not going to post anything on Twitter again. I missed last year to the extent that Musk's tweets are promoted compared to everyone else's. He fired people over his tweets not being pushed out to people enough. Then they designed it so that his tweets are forced to people.
Bluesky is growing very fast, so there will be technical glitches. I read an article today that they have only like 20 full time employees. At the moment they are adding 1 million people per day. Their size is doubling within a week or two. I love to see it.
I logged in again real quick to Twitter to see if Josh Morgerman had posted anything new and he hadn't.
Then I see dumb stuff trending by republicans and clicked it out of curiosity and the top recommended person to follow is RFK. I'm ready for Twitter just to fall to the insane stuff so that everyone sensible will have no choice but move. Sadly though, the government accounts are not going to join Bluesky. I wish they would in these final months, but at this point it's kind of too late. The next administration would just close the accounts anyway.
Obviously some crazy people will join Bluesky too, but it can't be worse than Twitter.
