Re: What is the True Meteorological Date ... ???

I have come to find that from year to year, the seasons are a bit off kilter.

In 2004, fall and winter came early in south Alabama, with cold temps early and snow.

In 2005, spring and summer came early and Hurricane Katrina came too.

In 2006, it was a less than humid late summer, more reminiscent of early fall.

Last year (2008), fall came right on time, and was about average.

This year, I would say summer was ahead of schedule, but it looks to be departing early.

My fig tree has been the biggest indicator, as far as nature goes.  It sheds its leaves about a month before real "cool" temps show up, and by cool here I mean low 80s for highs and 50s for lows.

It started shedding them about a week and a half ago.

We shall see.

Just as an aside, though I usually back up any tropics thoughts I have with the meteorological reasoning, I have a feeling 2009 will see a late season Opal or Juan type hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico.  The way fronts are diving and leaving parts of themselves behind, one of them is going to spin up eventually.
